About Queen Jo...
Queen Josephine. She’s regal in the extreme. Where exactly do you start with this legend in her own camp lifetime? She’s one queen Brighton definitely can’t do without and a dj you simply have to hear. Her mix of decent dance, urban touches and funky moments keeps any dancefloor she rules above jumping till the small hours. Be her worshipers the boys or girls our Josephine satisfies. Like no other.
So how does she do it for us? Present residencies at ‘Secret Disco’ at R-Bar, those ‘Sugar’, ‘Sirens’ and ‘Bring It On’ for Brighton’s Candy Bar, her disco-tinged ‘Wild Fruit’ residency at Tru plus ‘Mardi Gras’ and ‘Pussy Party’ at Charles St Club are proof of this lasses popularity. Her gig history is a glittering as the (imaginary) crown on her royal head. Be it at ‘Pride In Brighton And Hove Wild Fruit Official After Parties’, 'Romp At The Races' or 'Spectacular, Spectacular', at The Candy Bar's Dance Tent at Pride in Preston Park 2001-2003 & 2006-2007, 'Spangle', 'Housewives Choice' , 'Shameless Hussies', Passion, Decent and her own club night ‘Majesty’. Memorable djing guest slots have included Queenie moments at ‘Sunday Sundae’ and ‘Mad Cow’ as well the ‘Ultimate Girls Party’ @ Concorde 2 and Rebel at Honeyclub. Add her creative forces in bands including Xi-Xi, QDance, Sunshine Sisters and Jack and you have a multi-talented star.
A star currently enjoying a singing renaissance as she joins Mr Haywood in the studio. Hear just some of the results on Haywood’s ‘Hotel St Tropez’ The Zen Room and via the ‘Private Party II Aural Pleasures’ compilation where QJ and Mr Pete Haywood combine beautifully on the lush ‘Sweet Music’. And of course there’s the stunning ‘Afterlife’ from Goloka on iLabel. Queen Josephine seduces as she sings her way through ‘Tobacco Slide’ and ‘Save Me Tonight’. And with those Goloka tracks making it onto ‘Puro Desert Lounge Weekend’ for Seamless and the acclaimed ‘Hotel Costes’ series, the joy of our Queenie’s unique vocal talent are going global.
Yes if there’s one person you’d want at your Secret Disco it’s our Queen Josephine. And if you can’t have her in person? Well, alongside dj-ing missus and label mate Kate Wildblood, Josephine has brought us ‘Private Party II Aural Pleasures’ and the DJ Magazine 5 star rated ‘Secret Disco’, both courtesy of Crazy Diamond. It’s all about the sweet soulful and filthy funky house.
Queen Josephine is much loved by Brighton's queer clubbers. And it's a love affair that doesn't look like ending soon. After all, as the Brighton And Hove Argus put it, she is "the Joanna Lumley of the djing world". Something proved this year as Queen Josephine won Gscene’s Golden Handbag for Best Female Dj 2008. Voted for by the readers of Gscene Magazine and www.realbrighton.com a shocked and surprised but definitely chuffed Jo took her award well. Brighton loves our Jo. She's one brilliant dj, one classy lady and Brighton's one true queen. She's regal in the extreme; she's our Queen Josephine.

“Just as Boxing Day follows Christmas Day, so Rebel follows Wild Fruit. Tonight Rebel was hosted at the Honey Bar where Queen Jo pumped out the tunes for us until the doors were opened, and the party moved on into the Honeyclub itself. Two parties for the price of one! Fabulous! Dulcie kept her ears pressed to her headphones and presided over another fantastic post-Fruit bash... it's hard to explain just how good the Fruit/Rebel combo is! The mood from Fruit is seamlessly transferred over to Rebel so that we can carry on enjoying the night until it's the morning...”

“Having recuperated after a long day watching the parade and fun in the park, I headed down to Concorde to Girls on Top vs. Wet Pussy's official 'Girls Party'. The two rooms of Concorde were being entertained by Dulcie Danger, Riki Rocket, HRH Queen Jo, DJ King-K and Lady Bex and the atmosphere was electric. Even though it is a bit of a walk to the Concorde, the club was heaving and the girls had come out in force to support two of their favourite Brighton nights.”

"A brief jaunt down to the south coast led me once again to the wonder of Wet Pussy. Sparkling six’s filled the club, as did gorgeous girls dancing non-stop to the tunes of Queen Jo and Miss Annik. Every time I grace this night I’m surprised at such a friendly and gracious atmosphere - it’s refreshing to see different faces and a venue bustling with a positive plethora of distinct and diverse lesbians all with the aim of having fun! Six years on and the Candy Bar’s once a month girls night ‘Wet Pussy’ is still showing signs of Sapphic strength... and long may it continue!" Bex Wade, Real Brighton. 30.09.06
"After a bit of a break, the Candy Bar Girls tent was back with a vengeance and packed the whole day through. As I popped in and out throughout the day the atmosphere increased with the capacity and through the DJing skills of Holly, Rocket and Queen Jo plus the wife (and her smile!). There were gorgeous girls, boys and even dogs... it had better be returning next year or there'll be trouble!" Bex Wade Real Brighton 08.08.06
“Well what can we say..? Candy Bar once again outdoing themselves! This was one amazing night filled with more lesbians that any one Wet Pussy could handle!
Envy was packed to the brim with the regular supply of gorgeous ladies enjoying a spectacular LIVE pa from the lovely MZ Fontaine, free goodies from the Gaydar
team and tunes from the crowd pleasing Queen Jo and Kate Wildblood! These guys were awesome! Packing out
the already rammed dance floor. What a night!”

“Queen Josephine was outstanding and certainly kept the crowd going all night - a heaving frenzy of happy faces packing the venue.”

“Upstairs, Downstairs was the order of the day as hidden mysteries bundled into the bar and club for the New Years' Eve Masked Ball. Downstairs was refinement with Brighton's beautiful sipping on champers, while upstairs it was off onto the dancefloor for Queen Josephine on the decks.
The countdown began and at the onset of 2006 there was much air kissing and the odd scream of 'happy new year' and "fabulous darling." (As hostess Joan Bond was saying to most people at the door.)”

"The regal DJ has become a bit of an institution in the clubs of Brighton and she currently has residencies at the Candy Bar and Charles Street Club as well as regular stints at Wild Fruit and Sunday Sundae. Punters even started a Bring Back The Queen Petition when she left a venue recently. This is one queen Brighton definitely can’t do without and her DJ missus, Kate Wildblood, would certainly agree. What’s more she even made her GaydarRadio debut last month as the guest DJ on Club Nation. We caught up with the lovely Queen Josephine to find out more about her style of spinning, DJ clichés and the state of dance music." Ask The Dj. www.rainbownetwork.com November 2006
